I remember in a film on "creation care," (film's self-description), they talked about the concept of "beholding" instead of just seeing. I may have talked about this to you before--it's one of those concepts that made a big impression on me, so I talk about it a lot and never remember where and to whom I've said what. But in explaining beholding, they said it's like what children do, when they're really, really looking at some tiny thing: an ant walking along, or the serrated edges of a leaf, etc. They were saying we needed, as adults, to look at things this way: with all our heart and mind. (I think poets do this.) ... Anyway, yes!! Children and their intense focus.

NOTHING beats oil pastels for color and vibrancy. They are messy and imprecise, but oh BOY the colors. So they are perfect for a story set in the Amazon.
